Continental Bike Shop presents the Spoken Wrench vol6 no2
March comes in like a Lion, Edition

This edition of the Spoken Wrench is brought to you by the number 3. March is the 3rd month, we’re less than three weeks away from spring, three months till the official start of summer, and well this year we’ll be sponsored by numbers. Yes some of the best things in life, I learned from Sesame Street.

And now a word from our sponsors:

Next week is the National Bike Summit. So while Randy’s away, kill two birds with one stone: Keep Jason and Travis busy in the back, and make sure no one gets to say ‘I told you so’ when it gets warm and repairs are backed up. Because we’re already three days out, and its the first week of March. Just picture April…

2010 National Bike Summit

Randy leaves on Sunday for the National Bike Summit. While he’s gone the inmates will be running the asylum and looking forward to your repairs. He’ll be doing his part to make sure Congress gets the message that when they commit to Complete Streets funding, we’re going to hold them to it. Don’t forget to contact your representatives at http://capwiz.com/lab/home/ and tell them that bikes are important!

League of Michigan Bicyclists 2010 Bike Summit

You can still register for the 2010 Michigan Bike Summit, on March 27th. Registration ends March 19th, so if you’re interested get it in before then.

The keynote speaker this year is Andy Clarke, Executive Director, League of American Bicyclists. He’s spent years in bicycle advocacy, trying to make the US a better place to bike. There will also be a Complete the Streets Panel, reports from the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance and Michigan Mountain Bike Association. With workshops on “Improving your Advocacy Skills,”to “Role of the Bike Shop in Advocacy,” “The United States Bike Routes in Michigan,” and “Bicycling and the Law” the 2010 Michigan Bike Summit should be on everyone’s to to list.

Mark Your Calendars!

You might get to see Randy in bike shorts! He’ll be the host of the new Continental Casual Bike and Social Ride. None of us can remember seeing him in bike shorts, and he’s not even certain there will be shorts involved but its going to be great fun. We’ll ride, eat, drink, ride some more, and generally be merry. Rides will be Wednesdays at 6:30, leaving from the shop. And we’re tentatively scheduled to begin April 14th, you know, so long as its not snowing.

2009 Bike Deals and Steals

2009 bikes are still floating around in limited quantities from Cannondale and giant. Come on in and get measured so we can see what’s available in your size. (standard disclaimer goes here: limited fallibility/quantity means if you snooze you loose. Also, we need a deposit for any special order bike.)

Vegas aint got nothing on Vega

So, Michigan is pretending to be spring, and yet, failing miserably. Its not light out long enough to ride without lights quite yet, and its still kinda chilly. Hopefully you’ve gotten that chilly thing taken care of, (if not Sugoi to the rescue), but lights, well we’ve got Light ‘N Motion Vega lights coming in (sometime after St. Patrick’s Day). Normally, they’re $130, but they’re on sale for $79.99! If you want one we highly recommend pre-ordering it, or risk not getting one, because those are mos darn nice lights for $80. Bright and water resistant (Light ‘N Motion got their start with underwater photography lights, and provide lights for the Monterey bay Aquarium) the Vega’s intergrated battery mean there’s no cords to fumble with and no battery pack to try to Velcro on.

Single Speed Stuff

We’re stocking wheels and cranks and (we’ve always stocked) chains and lots of other goodies you might need to get your new or converted single single speed up and running. Come on in and see what we’ve got.
